What Causes a Bushfire?
A bushfire occurs in dry and warm areas with lots of flora. It is started by some sort of combustion from either natural causes like a lightning strike or can be lit by humans deliberately (arson, etc.) or accidentaly (anything- bonfires, dropping a cigarette, etc.). Factors contributing to the start and/or spread of bushfires include: heatwaves, low rainfall, winds (great factor in spread), low humidity, topography and other human factors. Bushfires are a danger to our society that we can not afford to overlook as they pose a serious threat for many living in rural Victoria and other parts of Australia.
